So, we moved in officially on 4/18.
We had already found a previously undisclosed problem with the A/C during the inspection prior to a final contract (re: didn't fucking work then)...and had specifically added an inspection addendum to the contract stating that the A/C had to be "repaired AND recharged." Prior owner accepts that statement and proceeds to hire the Keystone Cops (Garrett and Sons...yeah, I said it....so fucking sue me) of air conditioning repair in Tallahassee heretofore referred to as IACF (Idiot AC Fucks) to "repair" the A/C. During the inspection, the inspector was never able to get the A/C to drop the ambient indoor temperature at all. In fact, the temp. rose during the test, and there was no temperature differential at all, most probably due to lack of freon. Unfortunately, I come to find later, the prior owner decides that in lieu of a leak check, he'll opt for the much cheaper route of a freon recharge and a tune-up, which loosely encompasses cleaning off the coils and waving a magic fucking wand around the thermostat.
He provides the receipts at closing, which were illegible at best. He said that everything had been fixed, and unfortunately, me being the easy-going guy that I am, believed him.
Two weeks ago (the 4/18 date mentioned above) we officially move....and after lugging all our crap from old place to new and attempt to start settling in for the night, we come to find out that the A/C doesn't work still/again. WTF!!!
That night I call my (IREA) idiot real estate agent and raise hell (and I'm not one for raising hell all too often unless it's worth it). My IREA contacts previous owner's IREA and actually does me some justice for once as IACFs show up Monday and supposedly repair the A/C.
Not...
I talk to IACF #1 that Monday afternoon as they're still jimmying with my shit by the time I get home from work. He was hands down the idiot-savant Cliff Clavin of A/C repair. I ask him, "so, what was the problem?"
He proceeds to explain the entire workings and history of the fucking air conditioning process spanning a total of a good 25 minutes. That shit just causes your eyes to glaze over like your first hit of mescaline at a bad party. Finally, he gets to the meat of the conversation after some vacuum test BS and leak test BS and says that they'd found & fixed some doohickey that was reversed, and found the freon leak. Do I want to have it the leak repaired, or put the ~$500 Mr. Previous Owner has plunked down with the rest out of my pocket towards a new $2500 replacement system. Yeah, warning alarms should've gone off then. The unit is ~10 years old with an average lifespan of ~13 yrs. Nah, just fix the leak and I'll replace it down the road....after all, we just spent about every damn dime we had getting into this place (not to mention the $$$ of a new fridge and washing machine).
They apparently make the fix, and come back the next day to "check the system" and make sure there are no more leaks.
Me, I've taken faith in the goodness of mankind and not worry about it any longer. It was fairly cool temp-wise outdoors for about a week, so we didn't really even use the A/C at all...hell, I don't think I even looked at the thermostat but once up until last Tuesday.
So, Tuesday, I get back home after a round or two of disc golf in the now climbing temps. I was feeling a bit warm so I dropped the therm down to 69. Hmm...20 minutes later and it's not cooling off. WTF...40 minutes and othing still. I assume it's an unfound leak and turn the fucking thing off and place another call to IREA. She says that IACF should fix it as they guarantee their work and to call them in the a.m.
So I call them...they come out two days later and tell me that the compressor is shorted out (i.e. fucking toast). When asked "what happened?", it took IACF another 40 minutes to 'splain why it was most definitely not their fault or anything. Just a fucking coincidence that the damn thing decides to blow out within a few days of their wacky freon-induced antics. So...we're now out even more $$$.
